THAI HERBAL POULTICE MASSAGE
Thai Herbal Poultice Massage is a therapeutic treatment designed to relieve pain, and promote deep relaxation. A carefully selected blend of herbs — including prai, ginger, turmeric, and lemongrass — is wrapped in a muslin compress, steamed, and applied to the body using gentle pressing, circular, and rolling movements. The steaming softens the compress while intensifying the aroma as essential oils are released, providing a soothing sensory experience that engages the nervous system and supports relaxation and wellbeing.
This traditional Ayurvedic herbal poultice therapy falls under the category of “swedana” — heating and sweating treatments — and plays an integral role in Ayurvedic healing practices. When combined with oil massage, the warmth and herbal properties deepen the therapeutic effects, leaving clients feeling soothed and revitalised.
Neurophysiological Benefits:
The warm compress and aromatic herbs stimulate sensory receptors in the skin, which can promote nervous system regulation by reducing sympathetic nervous system activity and encouraging relaxation. This positive sensory input can help modulate pain perception and enhances the overall sense of calm and comfort during treatment.
